8 Day Challenge
What: a timed challenge!
Where: the internets
When: July 27th – August 3rd, 2009
Why: because we can
Prizes: a
PERMANENT custom default text rank*, custom colour CG art by mighty mama Meg**
At midnight on July 27th, a new, week-long challenge will begin. You know it’ll be difficult because it’s gonna be a long one. Do you have what it takes to step up to the plate?

This challenge will run from 12:00am on Monday, July 27th, until 11:59pm on Monday, August 3rd.

Winner(s) of this challenge will be determined by popular vote!
There are prizes! A permanent custom default text rank and a custom colour CG are up for grabs!

If there are more than 6 entries eligible for voting, there will be a runner up prize as well; the entry with the second most votes will get its creator a permanent default text rank.
Only entries finished by the deadline qualify for voting! Meaning; in this challenge, to be counted as a participant, you MUST finish by the deadline. To be counted as a winner, you have to have the most votes. You’ll have a whole week to finish your entry, so there is no excuse for not producing something on time!

Maximum 60 scenes, minimum 10!

this challenge will be geared more towards artists than writers, and it is likely going to be pretty work-intensive. Start bandaging your wrist now; you might have some carpal tunnel by the time we’re done.
Rule ReleasesI'm trying something different this time around;
I'll be releasing the rules one at a time, at random, until one week prior to the challenge. All the rules will have been released by the time we are one week away from the challenge start date. Keep in mind that failure to follow the rules of the challenge means disqualification, and will take you out of the running for the prize! (Date format used: dd/mm)
Rule release for 29/06: there is a minimum animation requirement. There must be at LEAST ten (10) animated scenes in your kami, consisting of a minimum of five (5) frames each. This means, if you are doing the minimum amount of scenes (10), ALL OF THEM MUST BE ANIMATED. Pans, fades, and edits
DO count, so feel free to use and abuse them.
Rule Release for 04/07: there is no limit on the subject you make your kamishibai about. It doesn’t even have to be particularly coherent, or even a story at all... but remember, to win, you must impress—so make it
awesome to earn votes.
Rule Release for 11/07: you must include a cameo of at least one kamishibai character not belonging to yourself/from a project you are not involved in. It doesn’t have to be a large part, they just have to be visible in the art for at least one scene.
Rule Release for 14/07: THE WRENCH-IN-YOUR-PLANS RULE IS HERE, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN....THERE IS NO TEXT ALLOWED. That’s right, for every scene,
the text field must be completely BLANK. No text allowed in images either, so don’t try to cheat the system by having your text in image format. In fact,
the only text/characters you may use in your entry are the following:> as an option button to indicate moving forward to the next scene
< as an option button to indicate moving back to the previous scene
“again” or “repeat” + choice punctuation (“again!” or “repeat?” for example) as an option button to replay a scene
“restart” or “replay”+ choice punctuation as an option button to go back to the beginning of the story from the final scene
“the end” or “fin” + choice punctuation in either the image OR the text field (not both!) of your final scene
punctuation such as “?”, “!!”, and “...” (or any combination of punctuation) will be allowed in your images only
Challenge Mission Statement
The purpose of this challenge is to move away from using words at all. A lot of stories have blocks of text telling us what's going on, with very generic or sometimes totally unrelated images to accompany each scene. This challenge aims to have us move away from using words as a crutch; to show and not tell what's going on. Use your images to tell a story, and your music and sounds to set the mood in lieu of language. Can you convey a message or a story without using text to do it? Would you rather just make something pretty, choreographed to music? Let's see what we can do!
Challenge ParticipantsCongratulations to all participants, you made it through the challenge! Participant ranks and banners will be instated once the winner is chosen by popular vote. Here's our participants:

Prize Fine Print* - permanent rank will be your DEFAULT; it will be temporarily overridden when you participate in challenges, but after the normal ranks are restored, you will get this one back as your default. After you pick it, you can’t change it--- so make sure it’s something you want to be able to have for a long time! This is a custom text rank, not a custom animated banner... if you so desire, you can keep the award banner image from this challenge as a permanent default as well, but you won’t get a custom one.
** - CG art will be full colour with a minimal background in one of two options: one (1) full body character, OR two (2) characters from the waist up. Only things I will not draw as a prize are cars, realism, mecha, and any form of hardcore material (porn, fetish, guro, etc). You are not allowed to use prize images for profit in any way, but are welcome to use them for yourself as forum avatars, graphics for your webpage, profile images, whatever. So long as you’re not selling it, do as you please.
